In order to lessen the effect of global warming and to ensure energy security, the consumption of fossil fuels is being reduced globally. Instead, power generation from renewable energy sources is being increased day – by – day. The policy of Government of Kerala also encourages the generation of electricity from renewable sources. In line with the policy of Government of Kerala, KSEB Ltd is planning to install 1000 MW Solar PV plants by the next three years. Out of this 500 MW will be from Roof top Solar Projects, which is expected by the year 2021-22.

Sectors from which 500 MW Roof top Solar project is proposed

  • Domestic / Agriculture sector : 150 MW
  • Government buildings : 100 MW
  • Buildings other than Domestic / Government : 250 MW

Timeline for implementation of project

  • Registration & initial survey of roof top : From June 2018 to August 2018
  • Feasibility study & preparation of Detailed Project Report : From September 2018 to December 2018
  • Installation of Solar PV plants : From January 2019 to March 2021

Financial models

  1. KSEB Ltd to bear initial expenditure for installing Solar plants on the roof top of consumers' building
    • 10% of the total electricity generated to be given to the owner of the roof top absolutely free of cost
    • Total electricity generated to be given to the owner of roof top for a fixed period (25 years) at a fixed rate

  2. KSEB Ltd to install Solar plants on the roof top at the expense of investor (Consumer)
    • electricity generated is partially or completely to be purchased by KSEBL
    • electricity generated is used by the investor himself
